Forging method

1、 Product Features

Customized forging is a solid square steel material made by plastic deformation of metal billets through forging technology. Compared with hot-rolled square steel and ordinary profiles, it has significant performance advantages:

Internal organization is dense and uniform: using a fast forging process with a forging ratio of ≥ 4:1, the coarse grains in the cast state are crushed, the metal flow lines are complete and continuous, and internal defects such as pores and slag inclusions are completely eliminated. The grain size can reach level 6 or above, and the hydrogen content is strictly controlled at ≤ 2.0ppm. The coarse and fine values of non-metallic inclusions are both ≤ 2.0, laying the foundation for high strength and high toughness.

Excellent and balanced mechanical properties: Different materials exhibit targeted mechanical properties, such as 42CrMo forging with tensile strength ≥ 1080MPa, yield strength ≥ 930MPa, and impact energy ≥ 63J; 34CrNiMo6 forging with tensile strength>890MPa, yield strength>770MPa, and elongation>30%, which combines high strength, high toughness, and good hardenability, and can maintain uniform performance over a large cross-sectional range.

Strong customization adaptability: Customers can choose the basic process of electric furnace initial refining+external refining+vacuum degassing according to their needs, or customize the electric slag remelting process to improve purity; Supporting various heat treatment schemes such as normalizing, annealing, quenching+tempering, etc., the delivery status covers black skin, polishing, turning, annealing, etc. It can also provide precision machined products to directly meet downstream assembly needs.

Surface and precision controllable: The surface is smooth and wrinkle free, with a straightness of ≤ 3mm/1000mm. The edge tolerance of the black skin state is controlled within -0/+3mm to -0/+5mm, and the tolerance can be further reduced to -0/+2mm after turning. The diagonal length difference does not exceed 3% of the nominal size of the edge length, which can meet the strict assembly requirements of precision machinery.

High material utilization rate: With small machining allowance, it can reduce material waste by 15% -20% compared to ordinary square steel, effectively reducing customers' subsequent processing costs. It is especially suitable for scenarios such as mold inserts and special tool blanks that require high material utilization rate.

2、 Execution standards

The customized forging process follows strict standards from production to testing to ensure stable quality:

Basic production and material standards: The mainstream implementation in China is GB/T 908-2019 "Dimensions, Shape, Weight and Allowable Deviation of Forged Steel Bars", which provides clear regulations on dimensional tolerances, shape requirements, etc; In terms of materials, standards such as GB/T 3077 "Alloy Structural Steel" and GB/T 700 "Carbon Structural Steel" are implemented. Some high-end products can meet international standards such as ASTM and JIS. Most production enterprises have passed ISO9001 quality management system certification, and some products comply with international classification society specifications.

Non destructive testing standard: Ultrasonic testing is the core testing item, and GB/T 6402 is routinely implemented. The first, second, or third level testing level can be selected according to the requirements; Export products can be executed according to SEP1921 Class C/C, D/D, E/E levels, or ASTM A388 standards to ensure no hidden defects inside.

Special material special standard: Low alloy ultra-high strength steel such as D406A forged square used in key fields such as aerospace, following the national military standard (GJB), the entire process from smelting purity, forging ratio, heat treatment system to non-destructive testing is under the strictest control, ensuring high consistency, reliability, and traceability of performance.

3、 Size specifications

The customized forging square has a wide range of size coverage and can flexibly match different application scenarios:

Side length range: The standard production specifications are 40mm-1000mm, and some can be customized for larger side lengths; Special materials such as D406A forged square cover 100mm to 350mm, and small batch customization can support non-standard specifications with smaller side lengths.

Length specifications: Usually delivered in variable lengths of 1-18 meters, customized lengths of 3 meters, 4 meters, etc. can be customized according to customer needs, with a maximum length of up to 18 meters, to meet the processing requirements of large structural components.

Tolerance control: The edge tolerance of the black leather delivery state is -0/+3mm to -0/+5mm; the tolerance can be increased to -0/+2mm after turning processing; the diagonal length difference does not exceed 3% of the nominal edge size, and the straightness is strictly controlled within ≤ 3mm/1000mm to ensure the clamping accuracy and material utilization rate during subsequent machining.

Weight range: The single weight ranges from tens of kilograms to hundreds of tons, and can be customized according to the customer's equipment carrying capacity and processing needs. It can produce forged products up to 100 tons.

With excellent performance, strict standard control and flexible size customization capability, custom forging is widely used in lifting machinery, rail transit, marine engineering and shipbuilding, petrochemical industry, power mine, aerospace and other fields, becoming the core material for manufacturing key parts such as shafts, gears, mold inserts, special tools, etc.
