17-4PH is a chromium-nickel-copper precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel. This grade of stainless steel possesses characteristics such as high strengh, hardness, and corrosion resistance. After heat treatment, the mechanical properties of the product are further improved, achieving a yield strength of up to 100-1300 MPa (160-190 ksi). This grade is not suitable for use at temperatures above 300°C (572°F) or at very low teratures; it exhibits good corrosion resistance against atmospheric conditions, diluted acids, and salts, with corrosion resistance comparable to that of 304 stainless steel. H is an austenitic-martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel developed from the 18-8 CrNi base, also known as controlled transformation stainless steel. After solutio treatment, 17-7PH stainless steel has an unstable austenitic structure with good ductility, toughness, and machinability. After tempering, the composition changas austenite precipitates carbides; subsequent martensitic transformation treatment converts most of the structure into low-carbon tempered martensite with good toughness, resulting in excellent mechanical properties at medium emperatures. The corrosion resistance of 17-7PH is superior to that of general martensitic stainless steels.
